Motorised Grader Operator (Grade 6)

Reporting to the Civil Engineering Technician

Hwedza Rural District Council is inviting suitable, qualified, experienced, and self-motivated individuals to fill the following vacancy that has arisen.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operating the motorised grader safely and efficiently in the construction, maintenance and rehabilitation of Council roads.
  • Carrying out light and heavy grading, levelling, shaping and final trimming of roads to the required specifications.
  • Opening, shaping and maintaining storm-water drains and road shoulders.
  • Constructing and maintaining road formations, subgrades and gravel roads.
  • Spreading and levelling gravel and other road construction materials to the required grade.
  • Carrying out final cutting and finishing of road surfaces.
  • Conducting daily pre-start inspections and routine checks of the grader.
  • Performing basic servicing, greasing, cleaning and minor maintenance of the grader.
  • Reporting mechanical faults, defects and accidents to the supervisor promptly.
  • Maintaining accurate machine maintenance records.
  • Complying with Council's occupational health and safety, environmental and operational procedures.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Civil Engineering Technician.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A valid certificate in Motor Grader/Grader Operation from a recognised training institution.
  • A valid and clean Class 2 driver's licence.
  • Ordinary Level subjects.
  • Be at least 25 years old and above.
  • At least 2 years' relevant and traceable experience operating a motor grader, preferably in road construction and maintenance.
