COMMUNITY ALERT – DO NOT CROSS FLOODED RIVERS ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️
⚫️As rains continue to fall heavily this season, rivers and streams are filling up quickly. Crossing flooded rivers is extremely dangerous and can lead to loss of life and property.
🚫 Please remember:
📌 Do NOT attempt to cross rivers when water levels are high.
📌 Children, especially ECD learners, must be escorted and never cross alone.
📌 Parents and guardians should ensure school children are guided safely.
📌 Familiar rivers can become deadly when flooded.
📌Protect life first. Vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians must all avoid flooded crossings until waters subside.
📌 Let us all work together to keep our families safe this rainy season.

Hwedza RDC Ward 15 Cemetry Update
Cemetery area has been cleared to ensure orderly and dignified burials for the community. Pegging of graves is currently underway.Fencing of the graveyard is in progress for formal allocation.Burial slots will be systematically planned and managed. Graves will be allocated to clients upon payment, following council procedures & burial policies. This structured approach ensures transparency and better record-keeping, efficient use of available land within the cemetery. Council is committed in upholding public health and respectful burial services to the community of Hwedza.
Hwedza RDC is set to complete Chineyi Health Centre Clinic and staff houses in April 2026
Council is in the process of constructing Chineyi Rural Health Centre clinic structure (95% complete) and semi-detached staff house (65% complete) in ward 5 and is set to be completed and commissioned by April 2026. The facility will serve 10,000+ people, easing pressure on Hwedza district Clinic.Council is working on outstanding works i.e final touches clinic building structure( painting , glazing) and completion works of the staff house. Upon completion the clinic will offer all health related services including: Maternal, infant health, chronic conditions (diabetes, hypertension).

Installation of road overhead traffic lights in Hwedza RDC
The ground breaking ceremony for the construction of overhead traffic lights at the busy T-junction that connects Harare to Sadza was done Tuesday 20 January 2026.
The development is set to improve road safety and traffic management in the district.
Importantly, the traffic lights will be solar-powered, guaranteeing uninterrupted operation due to power outages.
The ground breaking ceremony was done by the ward 15 Councillor Mukombe and witnessed by Chief Executive Officer Mr Fredrick Jongwe.

Hwedza RDC Council Chairperson Shines as Gold Winner
In a momentous occasion highlighting exceptional leadership and dedication in governance, Hwedza RDC Council Chairperson, Cllr. S. Mugabe, was honored as the Gold Winner for Woman in Local Government at the prestigious Inspired Women Africa Awards.
Held on Friday, 12 December 2025, the award recognizes Cllr. Mugabe’s outstanding contributions to her community and her role as a trailblazer for women in leadership. This achievement marks a proud milestone for the Hwedza Rural District Council, celebrating excellence and the impactful representation of women in Zimbabwe’s local government.
Phase 2 of Hwedza Growth Point Park Bays has begun
Park Bays Construction Project Commences to Enhance traffic Control and Safe parking as well as generating revenue at Hwedza Growth Point. This project is wholly funded by the council. Hwedza Rural District Council is pleased to announce the commencement of Phase 2 of the Hwedza Growth Point Park Bays Construction Project.
The project aims to build upon the success of Phase 1, which saw the construction of 18 parking bays that have already improved traffic management and accessibility in the area. Phase 2 will focus on expanding the paved areas by 8 more parking bays.
Full Council Meeting
The Hwedza Rural District Council convened its Full Council Meeting on 5th December 2025 at the Council Boardroom. The meeting was chaired by the Council Chairperson, Cllr. S.Mugabe, and attended by all councilors, management committee members, and key council staff.
The agenda covered critical topics including budget approvals for the 2026 fiscal year, review of ongoing projects, and strategic planning for upcoming initiatives. Discussions were robust, with councilors actively engaging in debates to ensure that community needs are prioritized in decision-making processes.
Tree Planting Activity
Hwedza Rural District Council successfully conducted a tree planting activity of Flamboyant trees on 4th December 2025 in Hwedza Growth Point. The event was part of the council's commitment to environmental conservation and community beautification.
Councilors, staff, and local residents participated enthusiastically, planting a variety of indigenous trees to enhance green spaces and promote biodiversity. The initiative aligns with national efforts to combat climate change and foster sustainable development within the district.
Strategic Management Planning
Hwedza Rural District Council held its 2026–2030 Strategic Planning Session from 10 to 14 November in the Council Boardroom. The process was facilitated by the Public Service Academy, and participants were drawn from the Council Management Committee and chairpersons from the second to the fourth day. The first day, however, was a consultation day and included all stakeholders from Hwedza. The Strategic Plan is a comprehensive framework that guides the district development agenda over the planning period (2026–2030). It is anchored on national priorities such as the National Vision 2030, NDS1, NDS2, the Call to Action Blueprint, and the SDGs.
Hwedza Growth Point Pavement
In response to the Call to Action by His Excellency President E.D. Mnangagwa, the Hwedza Rural District Council (HRDC) has embarked on a modernization programme through the construction of pavers at Hwedza Growth Point in Ward 15. This initiative is part of the council’s broader vision to improve infrastructure, enhance service delivery, and align with national development priorities. During the fourth quarter of 2025, HRDC successfully completed Phase 1 of the project, which saw the construction of 18 parking bays. The new bays are already making a visible impact by improving traffic management, reducing congestion, and creating orderly spaces for traders, shoppers, and transport operators. Beyond traffic control, the project is expected to facilitate economic activity and ensure accessibility, safety, and convenience for all users of the Growth Point.
Clean Up Campaign November 2025
Hwedza Rural District Council (HRDC) successfully held its November Clean-Up Campaign, reinforcing the importance of environmental stewardship and community responsibility. The Guest Speaker, the Provincial Manager of the Environmental Management Agency (EMA), emphasized the critical need to maintain clean stormwater drains. She highlighted that proper drainage management plays a crucial role in reducing flash floods and safeguarding communities against climate-related risks
Water Sanitation Week
Hwedza Rural District Council joined the nation in commemorating Sanitation Week in Ward 15. The Guest of Honour was the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Advocate Itayi Ndudzo.
Theme for the day was 'Sanitation for dignity and inclusiveness'.

Renovation of HRDC Boardroom
The Hwedza Rural District Council has successfully completed Phase 1 of Council Offices mordernization. Phase 1 included the renovation of council boardroom and guard house. The boardroom renovation involved refurbishing furniture to create a more comfortable and functional meeting space. These improvements are expected to enhance the council's ability to conduct meetings efficiently, facilitate hybrid discussions, and improve overall communication with stakeholders.
Roads Opening in Springdale
The Hwedza Rural District Council (RDC) has officially commissioned newly opened roads in Springdale, a medium-density suburb near Hwedza Centre, marking a significant milestone in the council’s ongoing infrastructure development programme. For years, Springdale residents faced challenges due to the suburb’s rocky terrain, which made some residential stands inaccesible. Many beneficiaries had acquired land but struggled to reach or develop their properties, slowing down settlement growth and frustrating community aspirations.
