The district lies in Agro-ecological regions IIb, III and IV. Region IIb covers the largest area and receives mean annual rainfall of between 700 and 1050mm and it is suitable for intensive agriculture production and is the most productive part of the district. Region III and IV are semi-arid regions which are suitable for extensive agriculture production with rainfall ranging between 450mm and 800mm.
